Free Databases and Other Resources
The following links will take you to digital collections that are available to anyone with an internet connection.
Creative Commons
The creative commons website provides you with access to several search services. They do not guarantee that search results will turn up something that is free to use under the creative commons licence, so you will have to do your due diligence and check. Regardless, you will need to give credit to the creator of the work! |
Google Scholar
Search academic works across a wide range of the online academic world. You may find links to downloadable articles, but might find that some of them require a subscription. If this is the case, try searching for the same article from one of our subscribed databases like EBSCO. If you can find it in EBSCO, you will be able to download because we have a subscription! |
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Canada's public broadcaster serves the Canadian public with news, cultural, and sports programming via television, radio, and the internet. The CBC website provides access to streaming radio, breaking news, podcasts, and more. |
Canadian Legal Information Institute
Search for information on Canadian law. The site includes federal and provincial laws. "CanLII's goal is to make Canadian law accessible for free on the Internet." This site doesn't interpret laws for you, it gets you straight to the laws themselves as well as court judgements. |
The Canadian Encyclopedia
Hosted by Historica Canada (another great site), the Canadian Encyclopedia lets you search or browse through their online collection. Designed with the internet in mind, this is a beautiful resource to explore. After your search, try clicking on "Your Canada" and find Kamloops on the map to read the story of Robert Hoita. |
